FASHIONS ON THE FIELD CRITERIA
Those who meet the general criteria below are asked to self nominate and present at the times designated in the Race Book which will be available on the day (usually immediately after Race 4 for the Gentleman and immediately after Race 5 for the ladies). The event takes place in the saddling enclosure between races, so we cannot give a definite time.
NOTE: Given the seasonal variability we can encounter out at Louth, you need to have some flexibility in your outfit preparation until the weather forecast firms up closer to the date. If it is warm, please adjust your layers / fabric weight to be comfortable and not overdressed. We will still adhere to the following winter racing fashion rules: Winter appropriate millinery (eg. leather / felt); closed in shoes; no strappy / short summer dresses. No specific requirement for a wool element.
BEST DRESSED LADY CRITERIA (18+)
Winter racing fashion rules (eg. no summer dresses; no open toe shoes / sandals; no straw or sinamay hats)
Hat / Headwear is essential
An overall elegant statement showcasing style and originality without being “over the top”
Accessories to compliment each other and enhance the overall look of the outfit
We encourage originality and prefer not to see entrants present in outfits that have previously been “sashed”.
BEST DRESSED GENTLEMAN CRITERIA (18+)
Clean, well fitting suit or sports blazer and pants
Hat not essential but is considered an important element of an outfit
Focus on "Race Day" fashion rather than corporate wear
Personalise your look
We encourage originality and prefer not to see entrants present in outfits that have previously been “sashed”.
Morning suit (Top Hat and Tails) is not considered appropriate for Louth Races
LOCAL LADY OF THE DAY (18+) and LOCAL GENTLEMAN OF THE DAY (18+) shall be judged in conjunction with the Best Dressed Lady / Best Dressed Gentleman competitions, with the major prize of return flights for 2 for each winner, from Bourke to Dubbo with AIRLINK. See criteria below.
To qualify you must reside in 2840 / 2835 / 2836 post code areas. You will be asked to show your drivers licence to prove your current address, if we do not recognise you. The Local Lady of the Day / Local Gentleman of the Day winners are still eligible to be sashed in the main Best Dressed Lady / Best Dressed Gentleman competition.

Having so many wool focussed sponsors enables us to celebrate fashion, reflect on the history of the district and help promote the local graziers and their fibre. As the meeting is in winter, many of you will have an element of wool in your outfit and we thank you for that, but it is NOT an entry requirement. It's a versatile and sustainable fibre, able to be worn in all conditions and will last for years to come. We simply ask you to please consider selecting wool over synthetics next time you go shopping. Look for the Woolmark logo or check the label to see if it's a Merino wool blend. You'll be helping support the local industry!
